Warm Summer ahead for Ireland

2013 will see a lot of warm weather in the Summer for Ireland after the washouts of the last few years.

May

May will be a cool month though and thought will immediately turn to all the wet Summers we have had.
The temperatures for May will be around 10 to 15c only getting higher toward the end of the month. There will be a lot of breezy and wet days with the wind coming down from the Northwest. Rainfall for this month will be above normal overall and sunshine and temperatures will be below normal.!

June

June however is looking a lot drier and warmer.Sunshine will break out more readily as the month goes on especially for parts of the East and the South of the country. Temperatures will be up to the low twenties at times too creating a very pleasant month. Sunshine and temperatures for this month will be above normal and the rainfall below normal especially in Leinster.

July

Also July could be quite hot too. Temperatures of the mid twenties are possible at times but because of the heat there will be a tendency toward more thundery weather and this will cause rainfall figures for this month to be well above normal in some places while in other locations there will be just about normal rainfalls. Overall the Summer will be a warmer one than is relative.

August

It cools down again in August but there will be some pleasant days at times also. There will be temperatures in the midteens most of the time as the wind comes from a cooler Northerly direction after being in a Southerly direction for most of the season. Rain and wind could break out at the end of the month more widely and of course the nights will get cooler into single figures at times.

weathergossip

How accurate is weathergossip for Long Range Weather Forecasts? Well most long range models tend to aspire to a 50/50 success rate. In fact we are slightly above this overall for the past 12 months with a 52% correct rate of predictions for temperatures, wind, rainfall and sunshine. In the past 3 months out success rate has been nearer 60% so are we getting more accurate. Well as the depth of weather knowledge and information increase on the Web all forecasters are learning more for the future even if the main weather companies like Met Eireann and the UK Met Office place little faith in Long Range Forecasts.

Rest of Winter Cold

The rest of this Winter is set to be cold or very cold with snow at times.

The rest of January will see the cold weather take hold before February sees an Easterly blast of air with some very cold frosty nights possible. These details are uncertain for Ireland as of yet but the warning signs are certainly there.

Summer 2012 Weather Forecast

Summer 2012 is going to be a warm one in Ireland with a lot of sunshine and high temperatures.

This is very optimistic but it is what we predict and having studied conditions over past years and this years weather conditions we feel this is not beyond the realms of fantasy. So what if we are wrong. Long Range Weather Forecasts can be just that but this year it looks like a good year is in prospect and a dry one too.

May 2012

UPDATE - Very cold weather May 5th to May 10th. Temperatures 5 to 8c
A few showers at times but generally a lot of cloudy weather in prospect.
Temperatures will be 12 to 16c
Winds will be Westerly and it will be breezy at times but rainfall totals will be large and mainly along the South and West.

June 2012

Very warm conditions for a lot of the month with sunshine and temperatures in the twenties.
Typical afternoon values of 18 to 21c
This will spark off a few thundery outbursts at times with High Rainfall totals

July 2012

Warm still away from the West and North where it will be more cloudy and misty than June.
Temperatures of 25c are possible in the South at times. Generally 15 to 20c.
Warmer weather everywhere at times but fronts will tend to brush along the West.

August 2012

More sunshine in the West than July but showers also, some thundery.
Eastern parts will have more in the way of dry weather and this could be causing water supply problems here. Temperatures over 20c on a lot of days.
More general rain for all at the end of the month.

This is the current forecast for Summer 2012 and it will be changing as time goes on but a dry one is well overdue now and pressure has been quite High overall in 2012.

Summer Washout

Summer 2011 looks like it will be the coolest on record at some stations in Ireland.

The sun has also been rare with 80% of the normal sunshine that we would expect at the time of year.

Temperatures have of course been very poor too everywhere and the highest temperature of the Summer of 25.5c at Oak Park in June is one of the lowest in the last 50 years.

So what is going to happen for the rest of Summer 2011 which lasts up to the end of August?

Well it does look as if there is no real improvement in prospect for Ireland with rain or showers until the end of the month.

Some of the more long range forecasters are even predicting a similar pattern of weather for September too. Can we really face up to that?

Well lets not look that far ahead maybe the High pressure will win the day in September as it sometimes does and bring Ireland an Indian Summer.

Thought not.
